I had to go to Australia in September 2004 for 3 weeks for work. I was based in Melbourne so all my weekend activity was done around Melbourne. I was amazed at how clean the city was and friendly most of the people were. It is definitely a place worth visiting. Unfortunately it was still winter/spring so the weather didn’t really play to well with us.
The first weekend we decided to go to Yarra Valley to see some wineries and Healesville for the wildlife sanctionary. The wineries were rather disappointing and the quality of the wines we tasted was average at best for the price. Healesville was definitely worth it, as it was the first time I got face to face with Emus, Kangaroos and some other Aussie wildlife. It is definitely worth the drive from Melbourne. We were lucky enough to see a raptor show where some eagles and falcons performed for the audience. They actually flew so low over the crowd that their wings would touch some of the people. Below are some pics of Yarra valley and Healesville..
