Another Yotatech run up to the Sierra National Forest 2-3 October 2004. Scott met up with us on Friday (1 Oct) night and we had a pretty good dinner at the Lakeshore resort restaurant. We stayed in the cabins there, which were OK but pretty basic. We met up with Scott (Scottiac) and George (Skyrat) Saturday morning at Lakeshore by Huntington Lake.

First on the list was Bald Mountain. We took the trail from the 168 up to Bald Mountain. It is a fairly easy trail and took less than an hour from the 168. The view from the top was beautiful and the weather was great. Below are some pictures we took at the top. We took a different trail back from Bald Mountain, and my navigation skills were lacking as we were trying to find the right trail constantly. Next time I will have to map out waypoints better on my GPS with a detailed Topo map. The trail ride back to Dinkey Creek road was more interesting and I shot some video Low bandwidth (8MB) High Bandwith (60MB)

We the proceeded to Brewer Lake. The first part was basically gravel road till we hit a small climb that was very rocky. We decided to have a late lunch and then proceed. We then climbed and went through some more challenging sections. About 300 yards from the lake we came across some guys in a build up 2nd Gen on their way back. We stopped and scouted. It looked pretty difficult for the last section so we just walked, the weather also didn’t look promising, so we decided to call it the day and return back to Huntington Lake. The overall scenery was not really worth it, so I would not recommend this trail to anybody. Below a few pics.

Saturday night we had a BBQ at Huntington Lake by our cabin. It was very pleasant with a campfire and some chatting, as usual for this time boring politics was also discussed. George had to leave the next morning so they were not able to join us for Sunday.

Sunday we decided to go up north a bit on Kaiser pass, which had beautiful scenery, and do Bear Diversion Dam and Onion Spring trails. Below some pics from Kaiser pass.

On the way up we stopped at a little place Mono Hot Springs. It was a very interesting place to stop over, but I’m not sure we would want to overnight there. Pics below.

We then proceeded to Bear Diversion Dam and did the trail to the dam. It was not challenging, but had real scenic areas. It was well worth the drive and beautiful. At one of the spots were we stopped Bliksem (the bully) decided to test his rock crawling skills and almost ended up landing on Scott’s head. Below some pics.

We then did a quick stop over at Edison Lake, which was a little empty. It certainly will be pretty in Spring. The vista point was not really worth it, but the lake certainly is. Below a few pics.

We finished the day by doing Onion Spring trail. It ended in a nature area where some hiking trials start. Maybe we were just spoiled by the scenery before, but it really wasn’t worth the drive. Below are some pics. After we returned from there, we worked our way back towards Hunting lake with some beautiful scenery from the road. Unfortunately the sun was against us so the pictures really didn’t come out. Pics below as well. At Shaver Lake we gassed up and went our merry ways. We headed for the Yosemite for a couple of days and Scott back home.
