Got linked into this years Surf ‘n Turf (5-7 Nov 04) through Yotatech. It is actually a Land Cruiser events, but at least the guys were cool to allow us with “lesser” yota’s to attend. I went through Friday night and “camped” next to some guy sin a FJ60. They were pretty cool and we chatted some next to their campfire. We were later joined by another couple also in a FJ60. After a few beers I slept in the back of the 4Runner with Bliksem. Note to self: “Take a mattress next time”.

We got up in the morning and the guys in the 60 had to go into town. I went to the main tent to get a schedule. While I was there I met Chris and Andrea, his mother was originally South African and he could speak Afrikaans. He immediately knew what Bliksem’s name means. The first event was at 11am, so I decided to go out and play in the dunes for a while. On my way back to camp I ran into Chris and Andrea again, busy airing down. So we decided to go do some dunes before 11am.

The first real dune we ran into was pretty fun and we got some good air going up. As always that was never recorded, so we had to do it again while shooting some video. The next few times were good, but not the same as the first. See pictures below. At least got some of it on video. After playing around some more, we headed back to camp.

There I met up with James and Milton. James was sporting his new Hanna sliders, which looked great. We then fell in line for the picture of “TLCA” on the beach. I hope it gets posted some day. I met up with Victor again as well. There were plenty of really interesting trucks around, especially a FJ50/55 as a fire truck.

After the picture everybody headed out for the poker run. At this point I lost complete contact with James and company. I only saw them at the start and that was it. I was behind Chris in his 60, so we ended up doing the poker run together. After playing some at competition hill, we sort of lost track of the various poker run points. Honestly we were having too much fun to really notice. The sand was moist in many places, so some of the dunes were easier this time around. We eventually got 4 of the 5 points, but they were kind enough to give us the extra “credit”. Unfortunately we didn’t win anything, not even in the draw. AFter the poker run we played around some more in the dunes. When we finally went back to camp we hooked up with James. As Chris was heading into town, we decided to go play in the water crossing. We took a few poser shots, and then Chris was off to town and we headed back to camp.

After shooting the breeze for a while I had to head back home. As always it was a great run and lots of fun. I always seem to meet great characters on these runs and hope to run into them again soon. Here are the videos as always, both are the same with the only difference being quality: 6MB Video   and 60MB Video
