Surf and Turf 2005

Joined the cruiserheads at Surf and Turf again this year. Again we had a blast thanx to some cool people and good organization from Jim.

We arrived on Friday at about 2PM. It was too windy to put up the shade, but we set up most of the camp quickly. This allowed us to do a good run into the dunes before it got dark. Was good seeing some old faces and meeting some new (to me) folks too. After dinner we were treated to a great Rubicon video of the Norcal guys doing a snow run and the Rubithon.

Saturday morning we went out for a quick run after breakfast and had to tow a 40 back to camp from comp hill. It turned out to be a fuel switch problem. Lunch was cooking and we missed the group photo shots this year, oh well better luck next year. The poker run was much easier this year and we were actually able to find all the checkpoints. Lance also came through in the morning with his new Chaos Edition 4Runner, which looked excellent in person. Henry joined us towards the end of the poker run. We then broke of and the 3 4Runners did an afternoon run playing around on the dunes. Henry managed to pop a bead doing donuts, similar to my experience earlier this year. Saturday night was the time for a big party and we managed to burn up 8 or so boxes of wood on the side camp. The main fire was running 10 feet high at times, sort of made me glad I didn’t park to close to it.

Sunday morning we did another quick run out to the dunes after breakfast and then it was time to pack camp. After much confusion we managed to get to Pozo saloon at 1PM, but got separated from the main group. Cort and I had lunch and listened to the music while waiting and hoping, James, Henry and the other guys would get to the saloon. We eventually did Las Chicas on our own, it was a pretty nice trail with good scenic views. It does get fun at points, but is not a challenging trail if you pay attention. When we returned to the Saloon around 3;30PM we met up with the main group who only arrived 15 minutes or so earlier. James and Milton headed out to do the trail before it got dark, and we stayed to chat a bit and have a beer. We left around 4:30 after another great weekend.
